John Allison, retired CEO and Chairman of BB&T, speaks on principled leadership

On January 17, the Business School welcomed back John Allison, retired Chairman and CEO of BB&T.  Mr. Allison is also a former Distinguished Professor in the School of Business, current CEO and President of the Cato Institute, and member of the Business School’s Board of Visitors.

John Allison’s talk entitled Principled Leadership presented his approach to leadership, outlined the development of BB&T’s mission and purpose, and detailed the 10 core values of successful leadership in organizations.  Mr. Allison said that people “accomplish their purpose by use of values. Values are practical habits that enable us to live, be successful, and achieve happiness.”

The Allegacy Center for Leadership and Character team was pleased to meet with Mr. Allison following the talk to share the Center’s mission and vision, as well as discuss initiatives, products and services for students, faculty, staff, and alumni to facilitate the integration of leadership and character development in the School of Business.
