Student Leadership Conference Program Wraps up Successful Year with West Point Conference

The final service academy student leadership conference for this academic year was held April 16-19, 2015 at the United States Military Academy at West Point.  Representing Wake Forest was senior business and enterprise management major, Nicole White.

The theme for the 3rd Annual McDonald Leadership  Conference was Cross-Cultural Competence.  The student attendees were led by senior mentors/VIPs, who are the forerunners in various fields of leadership.  These leaders participated in focused panels and facilitated small groups, in which the attendees were able to take advantage of their expertise and collectively tackle real-world problems.

The conference was founded and hosted by Bob McDonald who is the United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs, former president and CEO of Procter & Gamble and was a graduate of West Point who served in the United States Army.

Of her conference experience, Nicole said:  “The MCLC was an inspiring and unforgettable experience. I learned about how important it is to adapt and respect other cultural environments yet be strong enough in my own values and ethics to not waiver on them no matter what. Mr. and Mrs. McDonald, along with the other senior fellows, were encouraging and truly dedicated to the students’ and cadets’ leadership development. Mr. McDonald even gave out his personal email to everyone saying he would be more than happy to help develop our individual leadership beliefs. I cannot say enough positive things about the conference. I learned so much and had a blast while doing so. I met students from other domestic universities as well as international ones.”

The conference seeks attendance of top undergraduate student leaders in order to “bolster leadership skills, foster critical thinking and collaboration, and develop potential strategies for addressing pressing global issues.”
