Blake Wynveen, BEM major ’19 attended the Naval Academy Leadership Conference and provided exemplary reflections on the experience and value of what he learned. See below for excerpts from his notes as well as a video interview link below highlighting his leadership insights gained from the experience.
“Attending the Naval Academy Leadership Conference offered me a rare glimpse into our country’s top leadership, their path to success, and recommendations into achieving and maintaining success in life. The Conference provided me with insights such as the importance of having at least a baseline knowledge of all aspects of business, and the importance of gratitude, humility, and true accountability. Many speakers also reminded me how crucial it is for a leader to buy into and care for their people, both those they work for and the individuals who know them.”
Wynveen also appreciated the insights from a speaker at the event former dean of the Wake Forest School of Business, Steve Reinemund including his comments about the importance of community and recognizing those you have around you. Reinemund also recalled the famous quote from Theodore Roosevelt, “Nobody cares what you know, until they know that you care.” This reinforced the impactful message about connecting through hearts in order to connect through minds.
