On January 21 through 24, 2019, Mathematical Business major, Skylar Liang, and Business and Enterprise Management major, Chrysa Livanos attended the Naval Academy Leadership Conference in Annapolis. Exploring the theme of “Inside Out Leadership: Know Yourself First,” the conference offered speakers, panels, and breakout sessions with top leaders from military and business arenas.
Chrysa Livanos absorbed the discussion saying, “The conference was about leading from within and knowing yourself. I learned that leadership is all about relationships. It’s about being true about who you are and leading how you would follow. How you follow others shows a lot about the leader you are or will become.” She also gained insights on key leadership traits saying, “It’s a 360 effort based on trust, honesty, and authenticity. All these factors shape a leader.”
Skylar Liang also related to the leadership points saying, “Among the many things I learned, perhaps most important was that as a leader, it is your responsibility to make sure those who follow feel supported. It is imperative to create an environment they can perform best in, an environment in which they can question without punishment and grow without limitation.”
Both Livanos and Liang emphasized how stimulating the conference was with leadership ideas they will remember and will apply in their own leadership journey for many years to come.
