On Wednesday, March 4, the Allegacy Center for Leadership and Character welcomed Dr. Gary Chapman to the School of Business for a discussion with students, faculty and staff on servant leadership and Why Service Matters.
Dr. Chapman is a national and international speaker and author of several books, including The 5 Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace, The Five Love Languages, and more than thirty other books and five video series. He has sales exceeding 9 million copies
In his discussion of servant leadership, Dr. Chapman shared 7 traits of love, noting that in any culture, a person who is not loving will not be a servant leader and that servant leadership is key to business success.
The 7 traits include:
- kindness – words/actions
- patience – acceptance of imperfections of others
- forgiveness
- courtesy – every act of courtesy enriches someone’s life
- humility- stepping down so others can step up
- generosity – gift of time, abilities
- honesty
These traits, Dr. Chapman summarizes, will present a “how to” for servant leadership, in both the business world, and in life.
