Dr. Gary Chapman: Why Service Matters

On Wednesday, March 4, the Allegacy Center for Leadership and Character welcomed Dr. Gary Chapman to the School of Business for a discussion with students, faculty and staff on servant leadership and Why Service Matters.

In his discussion of servant leadership, Dr. Chapman shared 7 traits of love, noting that in any culture, a person who is not loving will not be a servant leader and that servant leadership is key to business success.

The 7 traits include:Chapman Blue Coat

  1. kindness – words/actions
  2. patience – acceptance of imperfections of others
  3. forgiveness
  4. courtesy – every act of courtesy enriches someone’s life
  5. humility- stepping down so others can step up
  6. generosity – gift of time, abilities
  7. honesty

These traits, Dr. Chapman summarizes, will present a “how to” for servant leadership, in both the business world, and in life.
