“Leadership is an art.” That’s what junior Wake Forest student Addison McLamb says after returning from the 8th Annual Principled Leadership Symposium last week. McLamb spent part of his spring break representing Wake Forest at this student conference, held at the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. This year’s symposium theme was “Principled Leadership as Honor: The Code, The Medal, The Ethos.”
Addison continued his art analogy by saying: “Through repetitive exposure to successful leaders, we can both begin to appreciate the gallery of various leadership styles and blend their aesthetic nuances into a consistent personal ethos. Attending the Citadel’s Principled Leadership Symposium provided me the unique opportunity to sieve examples of military and civilian leadership into a hybrid takeaway emphasizing courage, top-down loyalty, and honorable service in leadership.”
The symposium hosted approximately 100 college student delegates from regional institutions of higher learning, senior military colleges, and the federal service academies. The symposium’s goal is to explore principled leadership across a range of vocations and professional organizations. Participants heard world-class speakers, engaged in focused roundtable sessions, and attended diverse forums where prominent leaders from academic, military, corporate and other arenas shared their experiences.

The Allegacy Center for Leadership and Character sponsors the Service Academies Leadership Conference program. This is the program’s second year.
