Spring and the Pro-humanitate spirit was in the air outside Farrell Hall on Thursday afternoon.
Once again students from Dr. Douglas Johnson’s Calloway
Leadership Experience courses, the Allegacy Center for Leadership and Character, business school staff and partners from Allegacy Federal Union teamed up with local non-profit, A Bed and a Book, to assemble bed kits for children in need. These beds will soon be delivered to families in need throughout the triad as a part of A Bed and A Book’s ongoing mission to provide a safe place for children to dream.
Prior to the event Dr. Johnson’s students participated in a four-day fundraising effort to support the cause. Through the sale of popcorn and the collection of direct donations, the students and Dr. Johnson were able to present A Bed and a Book Founder Annelise Wall with a check totaling $10,029. This amount not only covered the
purchase of the 24 beds built but will go a long way in supporting future projects.
Wall expressed her gratitude saying, “It’s amazing to see all members of our community, especially the young people of our community, taking action to make a difference in children’s lives.”
A Bed and a Book provided 250 children with beds in 2025. That count is expected to grow this year.
