Dr. Patrick J. Sweeney Comments on BCBS CEO Departure

In a recent Winston Salem Journal article on “embattled” CEO Patrick Conway stepping down as CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield NC, Patrick Sweeney, executive director of the recently renamed Allegacy Center for Leadership & Character at Wake Forest University provided expert insight into the series of events, saying, “once the arresting officers’ notes containing Dr. Conway’s comments regarding using his influence and his belligerent behavior were published, Dr. Conway’s credibility as the leader of Blue Cross and Blue Shield was severely damaged.”

“Thus, the Board of Trustees demand for Dr. Conway’s resignation was reasonable and reinforced the organization’s culture of doing business with honesty, integrity and fairness.”
