Face to Face Speaker Forum with George W. Bush and Jon Meacham

The much anticipated Face to Face Speaker Forum event was presented on September 14th, 2022 by Wake Forest University’s School of Business Allegacy Center for Leadership and Character featuring George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States. Facilitating the conversation was Presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham. Both conversed on leadership, vision, empowerment, and the increasing polarization of the American public.

Sean T. Hannah, Ph.D., J. Tylee Wilson Chair in Business Ethics, Professor of Management, and Allegacy Center for Leadership and Character Senior Research Associate commented, “President Bush reminded us all that that the dignity, honor, and duties associated with a position eclipse in importance whatever man or woman is occupying that position at any given time. That ‘it isn’t about me’ mindset is certainly critical for the Presidency, but is also so for any leadership position.”

Hannah continued with, “President Bush reinforced a key aspect of effective leadership – that it is best done as a team sport, using shared leadership. He powerfully communicated the importance of surrounding yourself with good people, listening to them, giving them vision, and empowering them to execute on that vision.”

The community-facing Face to Face Speaker Forum brings world-renowned, influential voices to Winston-Salem to discuss topics in a variety of areas including politics, arts and culture, business and social justice.
