On January 20-23, 2020, Business and Enterprise Management Majors, Michela Eckhouse ‘20, Zoe Johnson ’20 and Brent Goodrich ’21 attended the United States Naval Academy Leadership Conference in Annapolis, MD. This year’s theme focused on “Invest in Your People: The Power of Mentorship”. The conference gave the students a chance to meet and talk with midshipmen while learning from the experiences of military and business leaders.
Michela explained, “The opportunity to learn alongside a diverse group of students across different educational backgrounds was an enriching experience. My time at the conference brought to light new perspectives on leadership outside of a traditional business school lens.”
Zoe shared “While at the Naval Academy I learned so much about leadership syles and mentorship. Aside from the worldly powerful speakers and highly esteemed admirals that presented, my favorite part by far was interacting with the midshipmen from the Academy. Their bravery to serve, their confidence to lead, and their commitment to bettering themselves was very humbling. Learning from people my age with so much dedication to our country was inspiring and I have a new appreciation for what life in the military is like. I would highly recommend this week to any younger Wake students interested in learning more about leadership from many angles.”
Brent stated “The US Naval Academy Leadership Conference was the best conference I have attended in regard to my professional development. The quality and diversity of speakers that we heard from over the four-day conference and the wealth of experience that they were able to share gave me a much clearer idea of what my own leadership style should look like moving forward.”
